Candice's Baptism

Dawn shared about Candice before baptizing her
Candice Fudzie is one of our students at SMU; she was featured in our student testimony a couple month's back, so her name is probably familiar to you! In March, she decided to get baptized as a sign of obedience and commitment to her faith. She invited her close friends, family, and some other friends from our other campuses.

Looking around at the group that was there, it was cool to see how Candice's love for people and God has extended past her campus. Candice has been a huge blessing to our ministry!

"Does God Exist?" Event at SMU

A couple of Christian ministries at SMU partnered to put on an event called "Does God Exist?" They invited an apologetic speaker who addressed the question of, you guessed it, "Does God exist?" The talk was definitely heavy in content, but I think it appealed to some of our students who appreciate that more intellectual approach. It was also cool to see the various ministries on campus, to meet various students and ministers from othr ministries, and eat free pizza!

SSI (Student Spring Initiative)

Every year, our staff and a group of students from Western Washington University take part in what we call "Student Spring Initiative" for a week. During that week, we hold various outreach events to reach out to students. A group of students came to SMU! Read more about it on Dawn's Ministry Updates!

April Student Testimony

Siena Walter
UT Dallas
Business Administration
"When I first came to college, I was worried about finding a good, Christian community on campus. Luckily, I had a friend from home invite me to FOCUS at the beginning of the year, introducing me to a community that radiated acceptance and spread God’s light throughout campus.

Right away, I felt immediately included and got involved in a small group, which provided me a great community of believers and friends. Establishing this strong base at the beginning of the year eventually helped me through the tough times I faced later on; I was confronted with many things I had never been tempted with before during my first semester. That semester, while in a musical, I was around many older people who frequently drank. I drank a couple of times and justified my underage drinking while judging others for falling short in the same way. In my family and high school, I had been labeled the “good kid”.  I had never built up the self-control against these inclinations and felt ashamed when I gave in to temptation. However, with the help of my Corefas and friends in FOCUS, I was able to stop these bad habits before they became too serious and find forgiveness through Christ. Now, rather than judging others who struggle with that temptation, I can empathize with them and share how God used FOCUS to help me overcome my own obstacles!"

Prayer Requests

  • Our students, staff, and a group of students from Western Washington University spent a week doing outreach on our campuses in March (SSI). Please pray that the students they met and befriended would desire to know Jesus more.
  • On April 7th, we're holding a fundraiser event called Spring Showcase to raise funds for over 100 potential student leaders to receive campus ministry training in Bellingham, WA. Please pray that the necessary funds would be raised to allow all of our students to attend.
